UNIONDALE - New York Islanders captain Doug Weight did his best not to shed any tears as he said goodbye in Uniondale today.
The NHL gave Weight 19 seasons, nearly 1,400 games and one Stanley Cup win in 2006. In a farewell speech, Weight said he feels grateful and fulfilled for everything the sport has given him throughout the years.
Weight became an Islander in 2008 and while he didn't lead the team to a Stanley Cup win, he'll still get another chance. He says he'll remain with the organization as their new assistant coach and front-office advisor.
