VALLEY STREAM - Two political newcomers are vying for the newly formed 22nd state Assembly District, added thanks to a rise in population in the latest census. The district stretches from Bellrose to North Woodmere and includes all the communities from Franklin Square to Garden City. Republican candidate Sean Wright is facing off against Michaelle Solages, a Democrat. Solages is the sister of the well-known Nassau Legislator Carrie Solages while Wright is a Town of Hempstead deputy attorney. The two have widely different views on the needs of the district: Wright is campaigning on school aid for children while Solages is making jobs and small business her focus. To watch local debates and more Island Vote coverage, go to Optimum TV Channel 612.Island Vote 2012: Veteran politician, lawyer vie for Assembly seatIsland Vote 2012 DebatesIsland Vote 2012: A closer look at LI's new voting districts
