AMAGANSETT - A weekend and holiday ban on alcohol takes effect Saturday at Indian Wells Beach in Amagansett.

East Hampton Town Supervisor Larry Cantwell says the ban is a result of safety and quality-of-life issues for family following complaints of alcohol abuse and parties.

“It's an accumulation of too many people showing up,” he says. “Drinking too much, littering, urinating in public … creating a lot of noise and disturbance."

Violators face a $250 fine if caught.

The alcohol ban is in effect while lifeguards are on duty from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
