WEST ISLIP - The Huntington teen who survived a grizzly bear attack in Alaska and helped his injured friends was honored in West Islip today.

Simeon Melman, 17, was presented with a Community Service Award by Good Samaritan Hospital, where he's a volunteer.

Melman administered first aid to several boys who were mauled by a bear while undergoing survival training last Saturday.

The 17-year-old, who returned home yesterday, said he used his clothes for bandages and signaled for help with an emergency beacon until rescuers arrived.
