HUNTINGTON - A Huntington middle school teacher has been accused of sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl in a classroom.
Police say the incident happened on Jan. 26 when 67-year-old Richard Williams, an English teacher at J. Taylor Finley Middle School, took a female student into a classroom to make a phone call.
While there, investigators say Williams subjected the girl to inappropriate sexual contact. They say the alleged victim ran and told a teacher.
In a statement, Huntington school officials said Williams has been reassigned to home pending an internal investigation.
Williams was charged with second-degree sexual abuse and released on bail. He is due back in court March 31.
