Huntington bus driver heads to national arm wrestling championships

HUNTINGTON - A Long Island school bus driver has pushed his way to one of professional arm wrestling's biggest tournaments.

Roy Ramsland, 63, has been driving buses in Huntington since 2007. But last December, he won the 50-and-over division in the 165-pound weight class at the World Arm Wrestling Championships in Nevada.

"That was probably the second or third greatest feeling of my life," Ramsland said. "I was just so happy that I could win for my country."

Ramsland says he works out on his own about five days a week, doing various exercises to improve his strength and endurance. He says he occasionally heads to Queens to work out with other world-class arm wrestlers.

He is set to compete in the 2011 National Championships this summer in Mobile, Alabama.
