LAKE RONKONKOMA - Hundreds of Long Islanders are bringing their fight for school funding to the governor's attention.

More than 300 teachers and supporters left for Albany from Sachem North High School early this morning.

The teachers are protesting Gov. Andrew Cuomo's plan to slash state aid to schools by $200 million.

For many districts, the cuts could mean massive teacher layoffs and deep cuts to programs including sports and music.

Organizers from Sachem say the goal of today's rally is to put a face on the teacher layoffs.

Today was a staff development day, so the kids in the Sachem School District had the day off. The teachers did have to take a personal day.
