WOODBURY - Hostess Brands, the maker of Twinkies, Ding Dongs and Wonder Bread, is closing its doors for good after it announced plans to liquidate following bankruptcy and a union strike.

The company, which has been producing the beloved treats for more than 80 years, says that a labor dispute over union wages and benefits forced the decision.

The liquidation will mean 18,500 layoffs, according to the company.

Popular products, such as Twinkies and Wonder Bread, may return however, as numerous other companies are said to be interested in acquiring the brands.
