BRENTWOOD - A Brentwood High School senior and Intel semi-finalist was on the Ellen DeGeneres show. Samantha Garvey, 17, was given a $50,000 scholarship during a taping of the show.

According to Newsday, Garvey can use the scholarship at the school of her choice.

Garvey has been living with her family in a Bay Shore homeless shelter. However, Suffolk County officials found the family a rent subsidized house.
