BRENTWOOD - A homeless Brentwood High School student who was named a semifinalist this week in a prestigious science competition got another surprise today: a permanent home for her and her family. Suffolk County officials announced today that they've identified a recently vacated Bay Shore home for the Garvey family. Samantha Garvey, 17, made headlines this week when she was named one of 61 Long Island semifinalists in the Intel Science Talent Search. Garvey has lived in and out of homeless shelters since she was 8 years old. She says the news that her family is getting a home of their own is a dream come true. County officials say the Garveys should be able to move into the three-bedroom home in about 10 days.Homeless Brentwood student a semi-finalist in Intel competition
