MIDDLE ISLAND - Homeless veterans have a new place of refuge on Long Island.
A home in Middle Island is being converted to a transitional facility for homeless veterans. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held today to commemorate the project's completion.
Wilkens Young, the director of operations for Suffolk County United Veterans, says volunteers helped replace the building's siding, roof and windows.
Officials with Veterans Services say there are about five more houses they hope to improve over the next few months.
