WOODBURY - Long Islanders rushing home to see loved ones this Christmas found themselves paying more this year.

For the first time ever, the average price of gas surpassed $3 on Christmas Eve and Christmas.

The average price for a gallon of regular gas on Long Island was about $3.32.

Nevertheless, more than 92 million Americans were expected to drive to their holiday destinations, up 3 percent from last year.

Airports expected about 3 percent more passengers than last year.

The Air Transport Association says those travelers will have paid 5 percent more per ticket than last year.
