WOODBURY - Despite heavy rain and strong winds this morning, the situation at airports wasn't too bad.

The first major snow storm of the season dumped more than a foot of snow across the Midwest yesterday, forcing airlines to cancel and delay hundreds of flights. That same storm brought heavy rain to New York, but only minor delays of 15-20 minutes.

AAA says fewer people are flying this holiday season because ticket prices are up. Instead, more Americans are hitting the road. AAA estimates one in four Americans will be driving long distances for Christmas and New Year's.

Whether staying on Long Island or traveling, residents say they're just looking to spend time with family.
