Hofstra basketball player Jamal Coombs-McDaniel arrested on drug charges

WOODBURY - A Hofstra University basketball player is facing drug charges after a routine traffic stop in Brooklyn.

Police say Jamal Coombs-McDaniel was pulled over for driving without a seatbelt Friday morning. Authorities say they found six marijuana cigars in the cup holder of the student's 2011 Nissan Maxima.

Coombs-McDaniel was arrested without incident and charged with criminal possession of marijuana and issued a traffic summons for no safety belt.

Hofstra University officials declined to comment on the situation.
