Historic Cutchogue church to close
CUTCHOGUE - The congregation at Sacred Heart Church in Cutchogue is saying goodbye to its historic house of worship.
The church will close its doors after 130 years, mainly for economic reasons. The building needs roughly $2 million in renovations, and the parish has another church in a neighboring town, making it difficult to maintain both.
Many are upset by the decision, including 16-year-old Caralee Stevens. She and her sister have started a petition to send to the diocese because they believe the church is a historic landmark.
