EAST SETAUKET - Officials say unacceptable levels of lead have been found in drinking water in the Three Village Central School District.

The lead tainted water was discovered at Arrowhead Elementary School in East Setauket, Nassakeag Elementary in Setauket, Minnesauke in East Setauket, Mount Elementary in Stony Brook and Setauket Elementary in East Setauket.

The faucets have been disconnected, and even water sources that tested near the limits for lead are disconnected.

Filtered water bottle filling stations will be installed.

Water bottle filling stations have already been installed at Ward Melville High School and both junior high schools.

The state passed a law in June that would require mandatory lead testing in all school districts.

Last month, Newsday and News 12 surveyed all 124 districts across Long Island. At that time, more than 20 districts reported lead levels that exceeded EPA guidelines. More results from the survey are expected to become available.
