WOODBURY - As gas prices continue to climb over $4.00 per gallon on Long Island, President Obama has ordered an investigation to make sure no one is profiting illegally.

The Justice Department has been asked to look for possible price gouging.

"We are going to make sure that no one is taking advantage of the American consumers for their own short-term gain," Obama said.

On Long Island, the average price per gallon is $4.12, but many stations are already charging as much as $4.39 for regular gasoline.
