HEMPSTEAD - The Hempstead Village Board of Trustees has unanimously voted on a new resolution to put more bilingual cops on the streets of Nassau County.

Village officials say the resolution asks the Nassau Civil Service Commission to create a category for Spanish-speaking police hopefuls. They say that out of the 2,400 officers in the county now, only about 100 are bilingual.

News 12 Long Island reached out to the county for comment, but have not yet heard back.
