HEMPSTEAD - The Hempstead Town clerk is on the defensive amid calls for his resignation.

While Mark Bonilla was not saying much outside his Bellmore home today, his attorney claimed the town clerk had no intention of resigning over accusations of harassment and official misconduct.

Bonilla was arrested Friday. Police say he tried coerce a town employee into giving him intimate photographs of a co-worker -- a woman who had accused him of sexual harassment.

Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray and the entire town board said Saturday that they would try to find legal means to eject him from office.

Bonilla's attorney says his client can't get back to work, charging that the Murray administration in a petty move changed the locks to the clerk?s private office.
