WOODBURY - Towns across the Island are taking action before the storm kicks into high gear.

Hempstead and Southold are among the Long Island towns that have declared a snow emergency.

Residents are asked to remove cars from local roads so highway crews can salt and plow faster.

Many town programs and services are also canceled for the day.
