HEMPSTEAD - Hempstead officials want to know why it took PSEG Long Island seven hours to respond to major outages in the area on Tuesday.

Officials confirm that there were 380 outages in the area caused by two blown transformers.

According to officials, about 3,300 customers were affected in the town by an unrelated issue.

Early Wednesday morning, 264 outages remained in the Village of Hempstead.

Hempstead Deputy Major Louis Figeroa says the outages were reported Tuesday afternoon, but he didn't see crews until hours later.

Police tell News 12 that PSEG crews have been working on the problem at Fulton Avenue and Peninsula Boulevard in Hempstead.

It is not clear when power will be fully restored.
