The Nassau County Health Department says the number of people who may have been exposed to hepatitis A at a Massapequa Park church is larger

MASSAPEQUA PARK - The Nassau County Health Department says the number of people who may have been exposed to hepatitis A at a Massapequa Park church is larger than originally thought.

Initially, health officials said nearly 1,300 people who who received Communion during Christmas Day Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church were exposed. Now they say 1,000 more could have also been exposed.

Nassau Health Department Commissioner Dr. Maria Carney is urging parishioners to get vaccinated and says they should watch out for symptoms.

Health officials say they will be offering free vaccinations today at the school auditorium of Our Lady of Lourdes Church between 7 a.m. and noon.
