Hampton Bays man accused of selling drugs to teens

HAMPTON BAYS - Police say they have arrested a Hampton Bays man for turning his home into a drug den and selling narcotics to children as young as 14 years old.

Investigators say during a raid yesterday, they found five teenagers sitting on a couch inside 31-year-old Steven Giarraputo's condo in a cloud of smoke. Drug pipes, prescription pills and bags of heroin and marijuana were all strewn around them, police say.

Southampton Town police say Giarraputo's waterfront condo on Canoe Place Road has become an after-school hot spot for kids looking to get high.

Police say a few weeks ago, they started receiving complaints from neighbors about teens visiting the condo. Sgt. James Kiernan, of the Southampton Town Police, says it's hard to tell just how many kids have used Giarraputo's alleged drug den.

Giarraputo has been charged with several counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and endangering the welfare of a child. He has been released on bail.
