HUNTINGTON - Officials say a cost-cutting plan will likely be introduced at middle schools in the Half Hollow Hills School District.

Instead of closing schools altogether, the district has proposed cutting one class period during the day and reducing the number of available music, art and health classes. District leaders sent a survey to residents highlighting the options and insist the plan would minimally impact students.

Some parents say they're concerned with the idea, while others understand that populations are cyclical. "In a year or two, there could be a population boom," says parent Richard Greene. "They could put those programs back in."

Additionally, school district officials say class time will not be sacrificed and will likely become longer.

The plan will be discussed at the next board meeting Feb. 11
