UNIONDALE - A young woman who spent days trapped in the rubble after an earthquake devastated Haiti spoke to students in Uniondale Tuesday.

Darline Bertil was trapped for five days in the hotel where she worked after the 2010 earthquake. Tuesday marked six years since the event took place.

"All of a sudden the ground started shaking. Everything around us started moving toward us," Bertil described to the Uniondale High School students.

Bertil is studying psychology at Hunter College so she can become a social worker and help others.

"God had a plan for me. Six years ago, I never thought I would be here. That's what keeps me going," she says.

The high school has about 250 students of Haitian decent. Many of them came as a result of the earthquake.
