GARDEN CITY - Long Islanders continue to fight for more gun control despite the Senate's vote yesterday to block a bill to toughen background checks.

The bill, which failed by six votes, called for broader federal background checks. It also sought to ban assault-style weapons and high-capacity magazines.

Long Islanders who have lost loved ones to gun violence say they're angry and disappointed in the Senate's decision.

President Barack Obama and other lawmakers ramped up gun control efforts after the Newtown, Conn. elementary school massacre that left 26 dead.
