MELVILLE - Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) came to Long Island tonight to throw his support behind Town of Babylon Supervisor and Democratic candidate Steve Bellone for Suffolk County executive.

"Steve knows how to make government work," says Cuomo. "He's done it. There is no litmus test. There is no guess. He's proven that he can make government work. He has a tremendous record of progress."

Officials say the fundraiser raised nearly $500,000 for the campaign.

Bellone will face his republican challenger Angie Carpenter, the Suffolk County treasurer, on Nov. 8.
