WOODBURY - A native Long Islander could take the reins of the cash-strapped Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA).Yesterday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) nominated Joseph Lhota to become chairman and CEO of the MTA.Lhota grew up in Lindenhurst and graduated from St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School in West Islip. He also served as deputy mayor for Rudolph Giuliani.Lhota's appointment still has to be approved by the state Senate.
