ALBANY - Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) has ordered the state inspector general to conduct a full audit of LIPA over allegations that the electricity provider overcharged its customers.
The governor says some of LIPA's practices and rate hikes have raised eyebrows and questions. He says those questions deserve and demand answers.
Cuomo is questioning the company's collection of about $230 million over the past decade and its expenditures of $33 million for Hurricane Earl which never made landfall on Long Island.
LIPA says it welcomes the audit and will cooperate fully.
