OYSTER BAY - Volunteers were joined by some big names in Oyster Bay today to clean up the beach and the harbor.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Long Island native Billy Joel rolled up their sleeves to pitch in for the annual cleanup, which was in its 20th year. The two arrived for the event together on Joel's boat.

"That's what New York is all about, people who care enough to make a difference, people who come and work together to make this state a better state," the governor said.

Organizers say its important that the water stays healthy so Oyster Bay's commercial shell-fishing industry can stay alive. About 80 self-employed baymen make a living raking clams in the area.

Last spring, the cleanup event removed 40 tons of garbage from the area.
