BETHPAGE - Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a bill at Bethpage High School Wednesday morning to add more than 100 speed cameras near schools in Nassau and Suffolk counties.

The cameras will go live one hour before and one hour after school. They will also be live during any school events.

Nassau County says it will begin installing 59 school speed enforcement cameras in July. Suffolk plans to have 69 cameras installed in 2015.
With tickets costing $50, the program could raise millions in revenue for Nassau and Suffolk counties.

State lawmakers Chuck Lavine and Carl Marcellino say the law is about safety first and foremost.

"This law is going to protect our kids and our families," said Assemblyman Lavine (D – Glen Cove).
