WOODBURY - Gov. Andrew Cuomo is hoping to head off a Long Island Rail Road strike that may occur in less than three weeks.    

The governor admits a strike July 20 would inconvenience hundreds of thousands of daily riders.

The strike could also affect Cuomo's popularity just months before Election Day.

Cuomo successfully helped avoid a strike between the MTA and the city's transit workers back in April.
