WOODBURY - A growing number of Long Islanders are jumping on the bandwagon of a big national trend. News 12 Long Island's Stephanie Rose takes a look at the people and places on Long Island that are going vegan.

The plant-based movement is taking root on Long Island. Grains, legumes, beans, vegetables and fruit encompass a whole vegan diet.

Registered Dietician Robyn Kenul says that, while you can get your nutrition and protein from plants, vegans need to add one important supplement to their diet.

"Anyone who is trying a plant-based diet, needs to be on B12," says Kenul.

For those considering a vegan diet, check with your doctor first. You can also educate yourself at the Farmingdale campus of Molloy College in their Vegan Living Program.

With interest on the rise, more vegan friendly restaurants are popping up across the island.

"It's great to be part of the explosion, when we first opened there was not one vegan space on Long Island" says Michael Sabet, of Sweet to Lick Bakery in Williston Park.
