OAKDALE - A decorated Girl Scout from Oakdale is responsible for the installation of animal crossing signage along a busy roadway.

Amanda Perrone got the idea for the signs after seeing an endangered Eastern box turtle crossing the street.

After consulting with her mother, who is her troop leader, she sent forms to the Girl Scouts for approval for the signs and a request to get a Silver Award for her efforts.

It took the town about three weeks for the signs to be installed.

Amanda also made 250 pamphlets to deliver door-to-door to let people know about the small animals.
