New York Giants offensive lineman David Diehl apologized today for his recent drunken driving arrest."I sincerely regret having to be sitting here, having this situation

EAST RUTHERFORD - New York Giants offensive lineman David Diehl apologized today for his recent drunken driving arrest.

"I sincerely regret having to be sitting here, having this situation occur," said Diehl, a two-time Super Bowl champion. "I've worked extremely hard throughout my career to be the guy people look up to. To be the guy who's a role model."

In the Giants' locker room, Diehl still has the support of his fellow players and coaches.

"David is very remorseful, a very proud young man," said head coach Tom Coughlin. "He's very sorry for what happened and he's been an exemplary citizen for this organization."

Diehl was arrested Sunday night in Queens after smashing into several parked cars. Police say his blood alcohol content was nearly twice the legal limit.
