JERICHO - The gas prices on Long Island have hit an average of $4.17 per gallon, which is just 17 cents shy of a record high.

Everyone is feeling the pinch at the pump, but those who drive for a living say they have it even worse. Many area cab drivers say they aren't making any money because of how much profit they are pouring into the gas tank.

Sunset Taxi dispatcher Mitch Chapin says he would like to see everyone boycott the big oil companies for just one day. Other residents say they agree something has to be done to ease the surging prices and hope President Barack Obama steps in.
