WOODBURY - Gas prices are spiking across Long Island this month, despite expectations from experts that they would fall.

According to the AAA, gas on Long Island is $4.17 a gallon, up 5 cents from last week. Nationwide the average is $3.86 a gallon.

Experts had expected gas prices to fall this month as refineries switched to the cheaper summer blend of gasoline, but tension in the Middle East, German bailout of the eurozone and refinery shutdown because of Hurricane Isaac have caused gas prices to continue to rise.
