WEST HEMPSTEAD - National Grid was on the scene in West Hempstead Sunday night, where neighbors were reporting a strong gas odor in the air over the last few days.
Resident Jeff Williams says the heavy odor on Partridge Avenue has persisted for days. He says a gas main was ruptured by a work crew from the water company as they replaced old pipes in the neighborhood.
Neighbors say the odor has dissipated a little, but they're still waiting on the "all clear" from National Grid.
