CARLE PLACE - A gas main break shut down westbound traffic on Westbury Avenue at Carle Road in Carle Place earlier today.

Officials say work was being done on the street when a worker hit a gas main with a backhoe.

According to National Grid, eight houses were impacted during that time. Repairs were made and the main was made safe at 10:15 a.m.

National Grid workers are now going house to house to do relighting on the homes affected.
