LINDENHURST - Family, friends and colleagues said goodbye to an off-duty NYPD officer killed in a fiery crash on the Long Island Expressway in Dix Hills.

Officer Joseph Pritchard, 30, of North Babylon, was a city cop since 2005 and member of the NYPD's football team.

Pritchard’s brothers and sisters in blue lined Wellwood Avenue in Lindenhurst in front of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church to salute their fellow officer one last time.

Officials say Pritchard's truck was stopped in the right lane and was rear ended by a box truck on Monday. It is not clear why he was stopped, but officials are investigating.

The driver of the box truck survived the crash.
