Funeral held for Nassau police officer killed on LIE

RONKONKOMA - Funeral services were held today for the Nassau County police officer killed on the Long Island Expressway last week.

Officer Joseph Olivieri's funeral was held at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Ronkonkoma. Thousands of fellow officers from around the area lined the street in front of the church.

Family, friends and fellow officers remembered Olivieri as a proud and dedicated patrolman. The 43-year-old from Middle Island was hit by an SUV last week, while responding to a crash on the LIE in North Hills.

Olivieri was a 13-year veteran of the Nassau County Police Department. He also spent five years with the NYPD.

James Ryan, 25, has been charged with drunken driving and vehicular manslaughter in connection with Olivieri's death.
