EAST ISLIP - Friends and family said goodbye this morning to an East Islip High School senior who died from bacterial meningitis.
Mourners gathered at Saint Mary's Church in East Islip for Kimberly Coffey.
Coffey, 17, had been hospitalized with bacterial meningitis for a week.
Suffolk's Health Department says it is safe for students to attend school because the incubation period has passed.
However, students in school for Regents exams and finals say they are concerned.
East Islip's principal says Coffey was planning to study medicine at Molloy College in the fall.East Islip High mourns student's death from meningitis
