FLORAL PARK - Friends and family attended a memorial service for a 9-year-old Floral Park boy who was struck and killed by a car last night.

Police say Andrew Burrous was riding his bike at around 6 p.m. on Martha Terrace with his mother, Kathy, who was walking their two dogs.

Investigators say a 16-year-old girl getting a driving lesson from her mother in their Nissan SUV made a wide right turn onto Martha Terrace and lost control, mounting the curb and slamming into Burrous and his mom.

The mother and son were rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Kathy Burrous was treated for minor injuries and released.

Police say the 16-year-old girl had her learner's permit for a few weeks and she was driving with her mother, a licensed driver, so no charges have been filed against her.

News 12 Long Island has learned that both the mother and son were hearing-impaired. Police say they weren't aware of that.

The Burrous family says Andrew's wake will be held on Sunday and his funeral on Monday at Our Lady of Victory church.
