FREEPORT - Police say a substitute teacher in the Freeport School District is facing sex abuse charges for allegedly having an affair with a student.

Kaitlin Grant, 23, of Elmont, was arrested early this morning. Police say while working at Freeport High School, Grant engaged in a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old female student that started in November 2011 and lasted for several months.

An attorney for the victim told News 12 Long Island that Grant would come over to the teen?s house and pretend that she was a fellow student.

The victim's family became aware of the situation after seeing a posting on a social media site and notified police.

Grant pleaded not guilty to three counts of criminal sexual act in the third degree and three counts of endangering the welfare of child. At her arraignment today, the judge issued an order of protection for Grant to stay away from the victim.

The Freeport School District says it?s disturbed by the allegations. School officials say Grant had passed all background checks, but in light of the allegations, she will no longer work in the district.
