FREEPORT - Controversy is stirring in the Freeport mayoral race.

The controversy stems from a flier sent out by Freeport Mayor Andrew Hardwick which says that President Barack Obama supports the mayor for re-election next Tuesday.

His opponent, Robert Kennedy, says the information on the flier is false.

News 12 Long Island has reached out to the Democratic National Committee (DNC), and learned that the president is not supporting either of the candidates in next Tuesday's election.

Mayor Hardwick, however, is standing by his flier.

"I'm a Democrat and I'm sure our president supports his Democrat mayor," Hardwick says.
