FREEPORT - A Freeport police officer is claiming he was passed over for a promotion because he is white.Chris Barrella, a 20-year veteran of the force, is suing the Village of Freeport and mayor Andrew Hardwick for reverse discrimination.

Barrella says he had the top score in the department on the chief?s civil service test.

Barrella claims the position was given to a far less qualified, Hispanic candidate. The mayor is not commenting on the claims.
