WOODBURY - ? Former NFL player and actor Alex Karras has died.
Karras, 77, passed away this morning at home in Los Angeles after fighting stomach cancer, kidney and heart disease and dementia.
Karras was a tough Detroit Lions defensive tackle in the 1950s and 1960s. He was also known for being a ?Monday Night Football? commentator, as well as acting portrayals of the adoptive dad on the sitcom ?Webster? and the infamous Mongo in Mel Brooks? ?Blazing Saddles.?
Karras is one of the most prominent of the 3,500 football veterans suing the NFL over handling head injuries.
