Former Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi running for old job

Suozzi left the same job back in 2009 after conceding the election to current executive Ed Mangano. (February 13, 2013)

MINEOLA - Former Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi confirmed today that's he's once again in the running for his old job.

Suozzi, a Democrat, confirmed the news on his website this morning. The Glen Cove native is vowing to restore fiscal responsibility to the county.

Suozzi left the post back in 2009 after conceding the election to current Executive Ed Mangano. Suozzi lost by about 400 votes after serving since 2002.

Nassau voters who spoke to News 12 Long Island today were split on Suozzi: some want to see him take the reigns back, while others said they like the changes Mangano has made.

Either way, the county is likely in for a nasty race. Political analyst Jerry Kremer says to expect a "very tough and unquestionably bitter election," and a lot of finger-pointing between the two candidates.
