WOODBURY - A former LIRR engineer who pleaded guilty to disability fraud will not face prison time.

Karl Brittel was put on probation and sentenced to six months of home confinement.

Brittel avoided jail time in exchange for his guilty plea and his emotional apology, according to Newsday.

Prosecutors say Brittel claimed more than $300,000 in phony disability benefits and lied to a grand jury.
