CENTRAL ISLIP - A former Dix Hills gym owner was sentenced today to three life terms in prison for the murders of three people dating back to 1994.

Christian Tarantino was sentenced for the slayings of Julius Baumgardt, Louis Dorval and Vincent Gargiulo. He was involved in Baumgardt's death during an armed robbery, killed a fellow accomplice in that robbery and then murdered Gargiulo independently.

According to Newsday, Gargiulo had secretly made a tape recording of Tarantino discussing the Baumgardt and Dorval killings. Prosecutors were then able to link him to the earlier crimes.

Family members of the deceased say they are relieved by the sentencing and feel as if justice has been served.

Tarantino's attorney says he and his client are already working on an appeal.
